Workout Wednesday Series: Run

Sometimes a good run is all it takes!

When I was a freshman in high school, a good friend of mine introduced me to running. I enjoyed it so much that I joined the track team. Unfortunately, I only was on the track team for one year because the competitiveness made me not enjoy running as much as I did.

The hardest part about running is incorporating the exercise into your routine and BEGINNING it. Although I have been running for years, I still have to push myself to begin a run. I believe every individual struggles with this at some point or another. When you find yourself struggling to begin, think of these 10 benefits of running:

  1. Mental health
  2. Strengthens your lungs
  3. High blood pressure prevention
  4. Strengthens immune system
  5. Weight control
  6. Strong legs
  7. Stress relief
  8. Increased bone density
  9. Joint strength and stability
  10. Confidence boost

All 10 of these benefits are reasons for why I run. Not only do I run to benefit my health, but I run because I LOVE it. Have you ever heard of a “runner’s high?” Let me tell you, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. You feel as if you can accomplish anything after a good run – a great motivational routine!

I am not pushing you to go run a marathon, but try something different today – run as far as your body will allow you to go. If you haven’t ever ran or are afraid to, now is your chance! The best exercise routines are the ones still awaiting you.
